Det var för 30 år sedan som jag plötsligt förstod att musik kunde vara en konsumtionsvara. Året innan hade jag fått upp ögonen för annan musik än på svenska och musik som låg på topplistor. Jag började lyssna på Poporama (1983) och sedermera Tracks (1984). Rakt över disc fanns också, liksom Radio Luxembourg. Radio var stort. LP-skivor, singla och maxisinglar också. SVT, eller TV1 och TV2, kunde ibland visa program med musikvideor. 1982/1983 hade jag börjat så smått att titta på Casablanca och fastnat för punk och hårdrock. När Bagen kom 1984 var jag klistrad. Det var nog främst Bagen och Tracks som gjorde att jag blev stor konsument av musik.
Nedan är Billboards topplista för 1984. Grönt = musik jag älskade. Gult = musik jag kunde acceptera. Rött = musik – eller låtar – som jag avskydde. Märkligt nog har jag inte ändrat uppfattning så här 30 år senare. För mig är musikåret 1984 fortfarande väldigt centralt och mig nära. Svart = jag har inget minne av låten.
